𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
The 2nd International Conference on the July Revolution (ICJR-II, 2026) was held on 19 July 2026 at the Senate Building of the University of Dhaka under the theme “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘺 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 2024: 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘩.”
Jointly organized by Research & Integrated Thought (RIT), DUCSU, Youth For Better Future Society, the University of Regina, International Islamic University Chittagong, and Nanyang Technological University’s School of Social Sciences, the conference brought together academics, researchers, lawyers, diplomats, policymakers, political representatives, and student leaders from Bangladesh and abroad.
Rokeya Begum, mother of July martyr Jaber Ibrahim and a Member of Parliament, delivered the opening address. She called for prompt and transparent trials, state recognition of the martyrs, and reforms reflecting the aspirations of the July Revolution.
Chief guest Prof. Dr. A. F. M Khalid Hossain described July as a historic milestone and the collective legacy of the people of Bangladesh. Former University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan called for national reconstruction based on the strength and resilience of the people.
Huma Khan, UN OHCHR Representative for Syria, and retired American diplomat Jon Danilowicz addressed the conference virtually. Huma Khan said united people could bring change without weapons or violence, while Jon stressed justice, accountability, and preservation of the revolution’s history.
Huma Khan received the “𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution.
Other special guests included Dr. Kh. M. Kabirul Islam, Prof. Md Shariful Islam, Mohammad Shishir Manir, Shafiqul Alam, Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Waresul Karim, Prof. Dr. Md Elias Molla and DUCSU Vice-President Md. Abu Sadik Kayem.
Keynote presentations were delivered by Dr. Md Saidul Islam, Prof Dr. Syeda Sultana Razia, Dr. Usaama al-Azami, and Dr. Takian Fakhrul, The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ismail, Chairman of RIT.
Student representatives Fatema Tasnim Juma and co-organizer Md Meftahul Hossain Al Maruf highlighted the importance of preserving the history of July, preventing its distortion, and ensuring meaningful youth participation.
A total of 80 research papers were presented across 15 panels, covering human rights, state violence, law and justice, institutional reform, media, youth and women’s participation, the economy and international relations.
The conference concluded with remarks by Dr. Dr. Akram Uddin, Executive Director of RIT, and a renewed commitment to building a democratic, humane, accountable, and inclusive Bangladesh.
